Aerial Nests

Common species yellowjacket (called hornets) build their nests in trees and sometimes in wall voids of houses (under siding). These nests can be controlled by using aerosol sprays that deliver a strong stream of quick-knockdown chemical. Work at night and wear head protection.

Ground Nests

Some species nest in the ground; these are often dangerous when in the yard. Mark the opening of the nest (stick, stone) in the day, treat at night. Apply liquid insecticide through the opening to nest (use about 1 gallon), then cover top of nest with soil (bucket full). Use pyrethroid insecticide. DO NOT use gasoline to treat soil nests.
