Infestation

Large numbers of grasshoppers may gather around the foundation and on the sides of house in fall; they are attracted to the heat the house retains during cool nights. They don't infest houses and will die with the first few frosts.

Identification

The red legged grasshopper is the most common species; it can occur in large numbers in late summer and fall.

Control

Use a pyrethroid spray to treat the soil around the foundation and the grasshoppers on the siding.
