Infestation

Small flies hovering around sinks and disposals, near the garbage in kitchen, getting into wine drinks and vinegar, hovering around fruit and vegatables (potatoes) inside.

Identification

Small flies (gnats), some with red eyes; they remain around sinks, fruits, and vegetables; may be active year round, but usually in late summer and fall.

Control

Remove, cover, or refrigerate fruit; keep vegetables clean and remove damaged pieces. Use pyrethrin spray if necessary, use fruit fly traps and monitors.
