InfestationStructural 2x4s and other framing wood may have visible damage from these longhorn beetles. IdentificationGalleries are open and exposed on the wood surface; fibrous frass (like small threads) in the oval holes and galleries; holes may be along the edge of the piece, and holes may extend through the wood (open at both ends), holes may be broadly oval due to a gallery being cut at an angle when the wood is milled. These beetles infest the wood before it is milled; usually female beetles lay eggs in down logs in the forest or at the mill. ControlNo control is needed, these beetles are not active in structural wood; they are killed in the milling process and do not re-infest. |
