InfestationFemales lay eggs in decaying organic matter, such as broken sewer lines, dead animals, and rotting animal products. They are often pests in hospitals and health facilities. They do not bite. IdentificationAdult flies move in a jerky or zig-zag motion; they fly to windows and lights; the wings have only small veins near the base. The maggots are small and feed deep in the rotting material. ControlThe source of the infestation must be found and the decaying material or contaminated soil removed. Chemical control alone will not solve the problem. |
