Infestation
Nests along patio, sidewalks, foundation, and stones near foundation; may nest between sill plate and foundation top, usually small amount of debris (dead ants) near the nest site. Swarming in spring, often confused with termites.
Identification
Medium size, brown to dark brown, dull; distinct and deep grooves in surface of the head and thorax; forage indoors in spring and summer.
Control
Use baits where ant activity has been seen; apply liquid pyrethroid to nest site, spray outside of thresholds; alternate sugar and protein bait in the spring.
