Infestation

The characteristic organ-pipe, mud nests are built inside garages, attics, crawl spaces, and under eaves and soffits. Dark blue to black, thread-waist wasps build and provision the nests with insects or spiders they capture. Larvae usually complete development by fall. Nests are only used once.

Identification

Single or multiple tubes will be built, usually in secluded sites; wasps are active moving back and forth to the nests. They are not usually aggressive.

Control

Apply pyrethroid spray to the nests, or simply scrape away the nests; usually these waps will move to another site.
