Infestation

Flies indoors at food and windows of restaurants, schools, and health care facilities; maggots in and around garbage containers. Common in late summer and fall when they come indoors for heat and feeding.

Identification

Flies have long stripes on thorax and clear wings; the maggots are pale yellow, puparia are oval and brown, usually away from the larval feeding site.

Control

Garbage is the main breeding site; move dumpsters away from building; spray pyrethroid around and on dumpster; use baits; use UV light traps and window traps indoors; seal around vents and doors.
