InfestationSmall gnats gather at windows, or small gnat-like flies are around potted plants, and windows near potted plants; usually a problem in fall and winter. IdentificationFlies are small (about 1/4 inch), black and with dark wings; they fly to windows or remain close to potted plants. The maggots are in the moist soil around the plants. ControlPyrethroid spray can be applied to the soil surface (light spray). Allow the soil of potted plants to dry completely, this will kill the larvae and end the infestation. Over-watering the plants is the cause of the problem. |
