InfestationStacks of firewood, including pine and hardwoods, such as oak and maple, may be attacked by larvae of longhorned beetles. The sound of the beetle larvae feeding in logs can be heard, and the fibrous frass collects under bark or on logs. IdentificationLonghorn beetle larvae can be found feeding just under the bark or making round or oval holes in the wood; adults usually appear in spring; the life cycle is 1-2 years. ControlThe beetles will not infest structural wood or furniture indoors; there is no need for control; there is little damage to the firewood and no need for treating the wood pile. |
