Infestation
Fleas in carpet inside; fleas biting people on legs and ankles; house pets scratching; flea bites in other rooms, anywhere the house pet has been sleeping. Adults remain on the host; females lay eggs on host and the eggs drop to the floor (carpet), they hatch and larvae feed on debris at the base of the carpet pile.
Identification
Small (1/16 inch), brown to dark brown adult flea; larvae are like small maggots and live in carpet (not on host animal).
Control
Shampoo all carpeting to kill the eggs and larvae; use on-animal flea control medicine for the household pets; spraying carpeting usually not necessary and not very effective.
