Infestation
Large numbers of these bugs may collect on trees and shrubs, or by the house foundation in early fall; they often come inside and damage fabric and carpet. They feed on fruid of maple trees, including boxelder and sugar maple.
Identification
Black with red markings on their back; they can fly but usually crawl around the ground and on trees.
Control
Apply pyrethroid to the aggregation outside; several spray applications may be necessary; inside use pyrethroid spray or, aerosol on the bugs.
