InfestationUsually small webs in undisturbed sites around outside houses, buildings, not usually inside; common in wood piles at bottom. The bite can be serious, the venom is a neurotoxin and moves quickly through the body; see a physician within 1 hour of being bitten. IdentificationShiny, black with round abdomen, long legs; red marks an abdomen not always present, male small with white and black markings. ControlSpray pyrethroid in area suspected, heavy application not necessary; wear gloves when in a crawl space. |
