InfestationBuild nests in wet or moisture damaged wood, found in decks, porches, window sills, in soffits and eaves. They nest in wood, they don't eat it. IdentificationSmall ants with shiny, heart-shaped abdomens; often in trails along walls leading to nest site; a fine, powdery frass may be seen near the nest site; most active in the spring. ControlUse baits near trails or nest site (or suspected nest site); look for moisture-damaged wood; remove and replace; use pyrethroid spray to treat nest site or wood. |
